I have been to Mill Creek twice now, the first time I fished it the water was super skinny, of course I cussed VDGIF for picking such a lousy stream to stock. Realistically Mill Creek is very, very tight spaced wise freestone stream, with very few drop offs into pools – it is just ripple water. When the water is super skinny like it was that day you could spot fish all day long, and within hours the creek will be fished out. For some reason, the locals love this stream.
However after a very long week of hard rain I went up to this stream, after they had just stocked it and it looked completely different. There were very large pools, but the water was very fast. Apparently this is why the locals love this stream, when it fishes like this I can see why it would be fun.
I would recommend using heavy weighted nymphs and a very large strike indicator to fish this stream, or euro nymph. These fish love to stay at the bottom of the pools and runs so that they are not wasting any type of energy.
I wouldn’t not recommend this stream, but I cannot recommend this stream as well. You will have to watch the weather when you want to fish the stream.
Additional Notes: Parking is almost nonexistent, there are several pull of spots. Make sure you pull off the road all of the way.
